ABOUT THE PAINTING

“I love the subtle variations in the different areas and layers of water and sky, in the waves and rocks, the light reflections and shadows. It’s an abstraction of the traditional seascape but it’s got enough hints of form that I think it keeps the mind and eye curious and engaged. So you can go deeper into the painting - almost get lost in the art - and essentially let the painting touch something within.”

“In meditating on this idea of ‘still waters run deep’ I was at first thinking of that saying, that suggestions that people who seem quiet or reserved may have a lot of depth, feelings, or significant inner strength that isn't immediately apparent.”

“Going further into the idea, I was reminded of a teacher who said ‘ the answer is within you, you just have to get quiet’. At its essence, that is what this painting is about. We have so many layers and nuanced facets of self, of life and experiences. When we take time to get quiet and connect to center and source, everything clarifies. And there’s often a moment of inspiration or direction, where the answer or the way forward appears right in front of you.”
