ABOUT
Lisa Miller is a contemporary artist whose paintings explore the human experience. She works primarily in oil on canvas, and water-based mediums on paper, and is at home working both on-location outdoors ‘en plein air’ as well as in the studio using her own photographs and sense-memories for reference. Her paintings are inspired by nature, beauty and the spiritual experience. Through her work, she endeavors to convey the feeling of awareness and connection to a Divine force in the universe, often as evidenced (in nature and life) by a momentary experience of ‘an awakening’. This experience of the transcendent is a universal truth that we can all identify with - regardless of we are individually on our life’s journeys – and it brings us closer to ourselves and each other. In her process of painting, as Lisa channels this creative spirit onto the canvas through materials and movements, this feeling of oneness with The Great Reality is infused into the painting. The artist, the viewer and the Divine, all meet at the point of the art. And the painting becomes a vehicle or a “Portal” for spiritual awakening, as it has the power to raise the vibration and transmit that energy to one who observes, engages and shares space with the painting. The overall effect of Miller’s art work is that of free-form expression, affirmation and liberation - one that provokes connection and inspires deeply personal introspection and spiritual growth.
Background
Having sketched, painted and ‘made things’ since she was very young, Lisa Miller’s life has centered around artistic expression and creativity. She holds a B.A. in Art History and Studio Art from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY where she also studied photography and philosophy. Upon graduation from college, she moved to Taos, New Mexico where she was profoundly influenced by her experience living amongst the art, culture and landscape of the Southwest, where she began personally making art and professionally working in the art world. In addition to being a life-long artist, Lisa is an experienced Gallerist, Art Consultant and Art Historian, working with selected art museums, collections and galleries in New York, Pennsylvania, New Mexico and Arizona over the past three decades. She owned and operated a successful art gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona where she imported and exhibited international contemporary art from 1998-2012. Since then, Lisa has dedicated her professional life to artistic expression of beauty in the world. She has made her home in the Arizona desert and on the California coast. She credits the expansive land and sea, and endless skies as the constant source of her creative fuel and inspiration. Her work has been exhibited and acquired by collectors throughout the United States and Internationally.
