About the painting:

When the Sun Shimmers on the Sea reflects my experience of seeing sunlight shining on the water, especially in winter in California, when the sun hits the ocean at a such an angle that it enlivens the surface into what appears to be infinite sparkling diamonds.

Water has long symbolized the unconscious and deep emotions: our hopes, dreams, memories and a sense of imminence - of something within us that is closer than we are to ourselves, waiting to be recognized.

The light carries something transcendent - a sense of divine inspiration and presence, a higher mind and expanse greater than anything we can fully conceive.

When the Sun Shimmers on the Sea holds that encounter between depth and illumination, where inner life meets something vast and luminous, and where awareness itself becomes a place of revelation.

This painting speaks to the truth that everything is happening in this moment-to-moment awareness, and that reality is far more malleable than we often believe. Rather than reacting from old stories or inherited feelings, we are invited to respond from who we are today. Each moment becomes a threshold, an invitation to choose, to engage, and to consciously paint our own canvas as life unfolds.
